Growing up in Westbury, New York, Steve faced numerous challenges, but his parents instilled in him a powerful mindset: focus on what you can do, not what you can't. This philosophy became the cornerstone of Steve's approach to life and sports.
Steve's passion for basketball ignited during his high school years. Despite initial skepticism from coaches and peers, he threw himself into the sport with unwavering determination. Hours of practice in his driveway, often late into the night, honed his skills and fueled his dreams. His dedication paid off when he earned a spot on the varsity wheelchair basketball team, marking the beginning of a remarkable athletic career.
The turning point came when Steve was recruited to play wheelchair basketball for the University of Illinois. Here, surrounded by elite athletes and world-class facilities, Steve's game reached new heights. He led the Fighting Illini to multiple national championships, setting records and earning accolades along the way. But more importantly, he found a community that shared his passion and drive.
